Gabion wall construction at a cost of Rs 15.5 million to prevent erosion of Myagdi and Kaligandaki rivers

Myagdi. Eight projects have been implemented in Myagdi district in the current fiscal year 2081/82 through the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation at a cost of Rs. 215.4 million. The Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project Office, Kaski, under the ministry, has implemented the project to protect settlements at risk of erosion of the Myagdi and Kaligandaki rivers.

Project Chief Bidur Shrestha informed that three annual plans are under construction and five multi-year plans are in the contracting process. The plan has been implemented to control floods in settlements at risk of erosion of the Kaligandaki River in Beni, Sinja, Tatopani, Myagdi in Darwang, Kushma Municipality and Jaljala Rural Municipality.

Project Engineer Narjung Gurung said that construction of a 66-meter-long, four-meter-wide and three-meter-high bridge and gabion wall is underway on the banks of the Myagdi River behind Saraswati Mavi in Tatopani, Beni Municipality-4 at a cost of Rs 15.5 million.

The construction company aims to complete this project by 20th of the upcoming month of Jestha. A composite wall is being constructed on the banks of the Myagdi River in Malika Rural Municipality-6 Darwang at a cost of Rs 7 million through the Consumers’ Committee. A plan to construct gabion walls to prevent erosion of the Myagdi River in Beni-4 Singa and Surkemela, with a budget of 70 million, is under construction.

The project, estimated at a cost of Rs. 61.1 million, for the construction of a 65-meter-long composite wall to protect the physical structures including the District Administration Office, District Court, Darwang Bus Park from erosion of the Myagdi River is in the contracting process.

The contract, estimated at a cost of Rs. 38.1 million, for the construction of a 102-meter composite wall on the banks of the Myagdi River under the second package of Tatopani Bazaar protection is in the final stage of evaluation.

Kushma Municipality-4 Armadi and A river conservation project estimated at a cost of Rs 50 million has been implemented on the banks of the Kaligandaki River in Lamakhet, where the Jaljala Rural Municipality office is located. The project has stated that this project has also reached the final stage of evaluation.

Through the said project, a composite wall of 48/48 meters in length will be constructed at both places. The project has stated that preparations are being made to implement a project estimated at a cost of Rs 28 million to construct an 80-meter composite wall on the banks of the Kaligandaki River in Jaljala Rural Municipality-3, across the Kalipul in Beni.

The project has been carrying out river control work in Beni and the surrounding areas for the last five years.
