Bhojpur. A learning center for ‘Orange, Lemon Fruits’ has been established in Vaikunthe, Ramprasadrai Rural Municipality-6. The learning center has been established here to provide practical skills in farming technology to farmers engaged in commercial orange and fruit farming.

The ward has established the learning center by allocating a budget as the Vaikunthe area is suitable for fruit farming along with oranges, said Ekraj Acharya, ward chairman of Ramprasadrai-6. Ward Chairman Ayarch said that the nursery was established with the aim of producing orange seedlings that are more suitable for the farmers’ climate, geography, and soil than those from outside.

He said that the ward had established the center by allocating a budget of Rs 150,000 in the last fiscal year.

‘Most of the farmers in Vaikunthe are cultivating fruits along with commercial oranges,’ said Ward Chairman Acharya. ‘Some farmers also have a problem because they lack general knowledge about oranges and fruit cultivation. We have established a learning center to provide farmers with practical information on orange and lemon farming systems.’

An orange nursery has also been established at the center with the initiative of farmers. Local Rajendra Kumar Rai said that orange seedlings have been produced in two tunnels. He said that the seedlings produced in the nursery will be distributed to farmers. He said that it is easy to get the necessary technical knowledge about orange and fruit farming from the learning center in his own place.

‘We have also produced orange seedlings through the learning center,’ he said. ‘We have been able to get information about farming technology under the direct supervision of agricultural technicians. We have also had the opportunity to learn how to deal with diseases and pests in oranges and lemons. It is easy to get practical knowledge from the learning center.’

Dhiraj Thakur, head of the rural municipality’s agriculture branch, said that information about farming technology is being provided to farmers through the learning center. He said that farmers are being provided information about farming technology by calling them to the learning center and making them practice.

‘We provide information about diseases, insect infestations and farming technology that farmers are most likely to encounter,’ he said, ‘The program seems suitable for farmers since it is taught through practice together.’
