Panchthar. Phidim Municipality is going to provide free ambulance service to pregnant women, senior citizens above 75 years of age and disabled people with ‘A’ category identity cards within the municipal area. The municipality has started providing free ambulance facilities to these three categories of citizens by launching the ‘Womb to Grief’ program to travel from home to the nearest health institution or district hospital and from the health institution to their homes.
The municipality has made arrangements to be recommended by the nearest health institution to come to the district hospital for treatment. While Phidim residents and others will get a 10 percent discount when using the municipality’s ambulance, Mayor Mitra Prasad Kafle informed.
If patients of these three categories need to go to the hospital from more than one place at the same time, the patients can use other ambulances. Mayor Kafle said that the municipality has made arrangements to provide rent for using other ambulances. He said that this program has been brought for the municipality’s ‘meaningful presence’ in important events related to the lives of the city residents.
Similarly, the municipality has decided to provide Rs 10,000 for funeral expenses in the event of the death of a citizen permanently residing within the city. The municipality has made this arrangement by approving and implementing the ‘Measures for the Implementation of the Mayor’s Program with the Poor-2081’, informed the municipality’s Chief Administrative Officer Kumar Prasad Bhattarai.
The municipality has stated that only those who are interested can take the said assistance. The municipality also expects that death registration will be done on time after this arrangement. Mayor Kafle said that the municipality is facing problems in various areas including statistics due to the inability to register deaths on time.
The municipality has also made arrangements to provide assistance from the municipal executive meeting if the municipality is the promoter or main promoter when requesting financial assistance for fairs, festivals, cultural programs, sports competitions, etc. held within the city.
“Especially since the investment made by the municipality in the sports sector is not visible anywhere, we have made this arrangement to inform the general community by being the municipality promoter in every competition,” said Mayor Kafle. Mayor Kafle also informed that all three arrangements decided by the municipality have been implemented. Phidim, which has fourteen wards, has a population of 48,000.
