Kathmandu. Former Finance Minister Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada has said that the government will provide equal opportunities for all entrepreneurs and businessmen to trade and compete. He said this while addressing the third general convention of the Federation of Nepalese Industries and Businessmen held in Kathmandu on Friday.
He said that the government will not formulate a policy in favor of any specific industrialist and businessmen and said that the government is working to resolve the legal complications seen in the economy. He said that problems have arisen due to various distortions seen in the economy in the past and that the government has not been able to reach the target it has set. He assured the industrialists that the government will not intimidate, threaten or extort money through any state body.
He said, ‘Especially now in our economy, the previous Industry Minister also said that there are some legal complications. We are resolving them. We will have to solve some of the distortions of yesterday’s economy. We also feel that we have not yet reached the level of enthusiasm that we expected. But you can be sure of one or two things. First, the state government will not formulate any policy in favor of any particular business.’
‘It will not make any decision in favor of such businesses. And you can be assured that this government will give all businessmen an equal opportunity to compete in business in order to be private sector-friendly. Second, the state will not stop you from making mistakes. Whether it is through revenue investigation, asset laundering, through authority or any other means. “You can be assured that the state will not intimidate, threaten or extort money from those doing good business,” he said.
Former Finance Minister Khatiwada said that the state will formulate policies and resolve legal problems in a speedy manner for industrialists in times of need. He stressed that industrialists should take some initiative to solve the energy problems seen in the industry and business in the recent past, and stressed the need to create pressure on the role that the government should play.
