Kathmandu. Minister for Forests and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri has said that the government is taking various steps to increase investment in climate-friendly agriculture, renewable energy and sustainable forest management. He said this while addressing a program organized by Sahara Nepal in Kathmandu on Sunday.
He said that it is very important to mobilize public and private capital to advance innovative solutions in collaboration with the government, private sector and development partners. He informed that regenerative horticulture is an important measure among the effective measures to protect Nepal from the effects of climate change.
Minister Thakuri said that since agriculture is the backbone of Nepal’s economy, it is imperative for it to adopt sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices. He informed that there is a need to promote climate-related funds, concessional loans and incentive-based systems for farmers.
He said that it is equally necessary to encourage the private sector to invest in sustainable agriculture, businesses and promote public-private partnerships. Minister Thakuri said that it is imperative to expand market access, promote climate-friendly technologies and increase investment in research and extension services. He mentioned that there is a need to make and ensure the agroforestry system as an integral part of Nepal’s sustainable land management strategy.
He informed that it is necessary to implement a plan to strengthen the relationship between economic prosperity and environmental balance in collaboration with local communities, cooperative organizations and the private sector. He said that the lack of financial resources is a major challenge for the long-term expansion of regenerative horticulture.
