Foreign tourists visiting Mustang increase by 50 percent, hoteliers excited

Mustang. The arrival of foreign tourists in Mustang has been encouraging. According to the National Nature Conservation Fund, Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Jomsom office, the number of foreign tourists coming here has increased by about 50 percent in 2081 BS compared to 2080 BS.

A total of 96,645 foreign tourists entered Mustang in 2080 BS, which increased by 49.76 percent to 144,745 in 2081 BS, informed Rajesh Prasad Gupta, head of the ACAP Jomsom office.

According to ACAP, the arrival of tourists from SAARC countries last year was 53.71 percent higher than the previous year. The office says that 117,614 tourists from SAARC countries and 27,131 from other countries visited Mustang last year.

According to the office, 20,809 foreign tourists visited Mustang in Baisakh 2081, 28,856 in Jestha, 8,187 in Ashar, 3,558 in Shrawan, 6,679 in Bhadau, 13,216 in Asoj, 14,578 in Kartik and 7,553 in Mangshir. In addition, 6,975 foreign tourists visited Mustang in Poush, 3,517 in Magh, 9,326 in Falgun and 21,491 in Chaitra.

According to the office, a total of 72 countries visited Mustang last year. According to Office Chief Gupta, 80 percent of the tourists who come to Mustang are from SAARC countries. They especially come to visit Muktinath.

According to ACAP Jomsom, in 2080 BS, 96,645 foreign tourists visited Mustang, of which 76,516 were from SAARC countries and 20,129 were from other foreign tourists. ACAP says that with the improvement of the national pride (Beni-Jomsom-Korla) road route in the past few years, there has been a significant increase in the number of domestic and foreign tourists visiting Mustang.

According to the office, one-fourth of foreign tourists visiting Mustang have been traveling via the Annapurna Circuit Trek. In addition, the number of tourists entering Mustang from Besi City in Lamjung via Manang is also increasing. Foreign tourists come to observe the enchanting views of the Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri mountains, which can be viewed from Mustang, and the natural and biological diversity here.

Tourists come to the coastal area of the Kaligandaki River due to its unique geography and natural beauty. The monasteries, manes, chortens and stupas here are tourist attractions. Upper Mustang is home to the historic royal palace of the Mustangi king, Loghekar (house) monastery, Chhoser cave, Chiusi cave, Luri cave, Damodarkunda religious site, and other tourist attractions.

Similarly, the famous religious sites Muktinath, Kagbeni Dham, Dhumbatal, the apple capital and cultural village Marfa, Gurusangbo cave, Titi Lake, and Sekung Lake are tourist destinations, which is why the number of tourists visiting Mustang is increasing.
