Kathmandu. Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Tuck in Geneva.
Minister Dr. Deuba, who is in Geneva to participate in the 58th High-Level Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, held a sideline meeting on Wednesday.
On the occasion of the meeting, Foreign Minister Dr. Deuba said that Nepal is an exemplary and pioneering country in the world in the protection and promotion of human rights and that Nepal has remained committed to the protection and promotion of human rights despite limited resources and means.
He said that the current constitution of Nepal guarantees civil liberties as well as the rights of citizens. Informing that political, economic, social and cultural rights have been provided as fundamental rights, she clarified that the Government of Nepal is fully committed to democratic values, rule of law and independence of the judiciary.
Minister Dr. Deuba informed that the Government of Nepal has moved forward with diligence by formulating a law related to transitional justice to complete the remaining work of the peace process and also expressed her commitment to conclude transitional justice soon, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting was attended by Krishna Prasad Dhakal, Chief of the United Nations Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ram Prasad Subedi, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations in Geneva, Rajendra Thapa, Chief of the Human Rights and International Treaties Division of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, among others.
