Kathmandu. Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, who is on a visit to Oman to participate in the 8th ‘Indian Ocean Conference’ and bilateral meetings, held discussions with the heads of the Nepali missions in Oman and the Gulf Cooperation Council on Tuesday in the presence of the Minister.
The Nepali Embassy in Oman held a ‘virtual’ meeting with the participation of the ambassador, acting consul general, deputy head of mission, labor counselor and labor attaché, and officials and employees of the mission.
The meeting discussed the rescue, assistance, repatriation, insurance and compensation, shelter management, dead body management, and other problems related to workers, as well as challenges and solutions seen in effective service delivery. .
According to the embassy, the meeting discussed in detail various aspects of economic, cultural and public diplomacy, trade, investment, tourism, culture, language, dress, and employment promotion, expansion of people-to-people relations, collaboration with the Nepali community and social organizations, and effective management and utilization of resources available at the Nepali mission.
A press release issued by the embassy stated that it was decided to include the suggestions received during the discussion and recommend appropriate decisions to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other stakeholders on the issues raised.
Foreign Minister Deuba stated that the government’s policy to make foreign employment safe, organized, dignified, and reliable is to achieve this important objective. She directed everyone to perform their duties with diligence as Nepali missions abroad play a major role.
She emphasized that all concerned bodies should be active in identifying the problems of Nepali workers working abroad and adopting solutions, and that this sector should be made attractive by solving the problems in the long term.
According to the embassy, the Foreign Minister directed that the service delivery of the missions, including the verification of requisitions, be economical, simple, transparent, effective and information technology-friendly, in accordance with the government’s policy of maintaining ‘digital’ good governance. Stating that it is essential for the missions to show special proactivity in promoting economic diplomacy for the overall development of Nepal and for the concerned ministries to provide necessary facilitation, she said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is ready to remove any obstacles in this regard.
After the meeting, Foreign Minister Deuba interacted with representatives of Nepali organizations in Oman, embassy volunteers, and Nepali community leaders. Responding to the questions raised in this regard, she called on everyone to work honestly and enhance the image of Nepal.
She also informed that the government is creating and regularly revising the necessary policy, institutional and legal structures to protect and promote the rights and services of Nepali workers.
