America. Food assistance is being provided to unemployed Nepali students studying at various universities in the state of Texas, USA.
Nepali social activists in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas are collecting food assistance for about three thousand Nepali students by starting a campaign called Community Program for Students.
Nepali Society Texas General Secretary Bijay Bhusal informed that the students are going to be provided with food items including rice, lentils, oil, salt, gram and other essentials for at least one month.
According to Secretary General Bhusal, more than 700 Nepali students have received food assistance so far. Students with vehicles can obtain food supplies from the Nepali Cultural and Spiritual Center, ULESH, and arrangements have been made to deliver food to students without vehicles.
After President Donald Trump strictly implemented his plan to deport illegal immigrants, it has also had a direct impact on Nepali students. Police are raiding thousands of business firms every day in their search for illegal immigrants.
At the same time, if anyone is found working in a business firm other than those who are legally residing and have work permits, the police have been issuing warnings, arresting and expelling some of them.
Nepali students have fallen under the influence of this. If they are found working, the police can arrest them. According to the statistics of the Non-Resident Nepali Association of America, there are currently about 50,000 Nepali students studying in various universities in the United States.
