Kathmandu. An Air Arabia plane made a ‘miss approach overshoot’ as it was about to land at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu at 1:05 pm today. The plane, which was approaching Kathmandu Airport, suddenly overshot over Narephant as it was about to land. The plane made a miss approach due to ‘wind shear’, an irregular wind speed, said airport spokesperson Rinji Sherpa.

‘The Air Arabia plane made a miss approach while taking its final approach at Kathmandu Airport,’ he said. ‘Wind shear is called a whirlwind when the wind from two directions mixes. Due to which the plane shook and missed the approach.

Similarly, an Air India plane that came from New Delhi to Kathmandu today landed in Kathmandu after being held in the sky above Simara and making four turns, according to Flight Radar. At the same time, a Thai Line Air plane that came from Bangkok was also held for some time.

Earlier on Wednesday, a Nepal Airlines plane that came from Narita, Japan, landed after being held for some time. Qatar Airways from Doha, Qatar and Air India from New Delhi, India, Batik Air from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Fly Dubai from Dubai were also held. Not only that, but also the Fly Dubai from Bhairahawa, Buddha Air from Dhangadhi, and Yeti Airlines from Pokhara were put on hold due to low visibility.

The country’s flights have been generally affected for the past week due to adverse weather. The Tribhuvan International Airport has stated that due to the lack of necessary visibility due to adverse weather, domestic and international flights are being affected.

According to Sherpa, the airport spokesperson, international flights are being affected more due to the bad weather. As pre-monsoon activities are currently active in Nepal and a weather system that causes rain is developing, international flights are being held and missed approaches due to low visibility and inconsistent wind speed, Spokesperson Sherpa informed. International flights are required to land only from ‘Zero Two’ on the west side of the runway at Kathmandu Airport. Domestic flights can land from both sides due to the long runway, so there is not much of a problem, the airport office has stated.

On Wednesday night, various parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, received light to moderate rain. Especially, there was rain in various parts of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Today too, the hilly areas of those provinces will remain partly cloudy, and light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning will occur in the afternoon, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has predicted.
