Kathmandu. Five hydropower projects will be connected to the national transmission line. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with The National Broadcasting Grid Company Limited (RPGCL) on Tuesday.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka was the chief guest at the signing ceremony.
Tila-1 hydropower project constructed by SC Power Company Pvt Ltd in Kalikot district will be connected to the transmission line. It has a capacity of 440 MW. Mahakali Seti Semi-Hydropower Project constructed by Surma Sarobar HydroPower Company is also connected to the transmission line. The project has been constructed in Bajhang district. It has a capacity of 54 MW.
Similarly, The Malumela Seti Peaking Hydropower Project constructed by Energy Multiple Pvt. Ltd. of Mata Mali will also be connected to the national transmission line. The hydro power planted in Bajhang has a capacity of 72 MW.
Similarly, Upper Mewakhola A Hydropower Project constructed by Surya Holding Pvt. Ltd. is also going to be connected to the national transmission line after the completion of the construction. The project has a capacity of 31.92 MW in Taplejung. The Super Daraudi Hydropower Project constructed by Himal HydroPower Pvt. Ltd. is also going to be connected to the national transmission line. The project is built in Gorkha with a capacity of 9.147 MW.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of RPGCL Engineer Sagar Shrestha and chiefs of hydropower companies signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides. Speaking on the occasion, CEO Shrestha said there was no alternative to building a hydropower corridor. “We are now focusing only on road infrastructure development, but the power route is equally important,” he said, adding that the government has allocated only a small amount for the coming year. ”
On the occasion, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka said that there should be no delay in power development. Giving the example of China’s energy development, Minister Khadka said that the government should engage the private sector to develop hydropower as hydropower is the only sector that can be expected in the country.
