Kathmandu. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel has said that the privatization ordinance has been brought to improve the condition of public enterprises with government investment.

He said this while responding to questions raised in the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday on the proposal to reject the privatization ordinance.

He stressed that the use of the term “Government Investment Management in Public Enterprises” instead of the word “Privatization Act” is not inappropriate in any sense.

He said that the government will not sit idly by as government enterprises are running at a loss, adding that the privatization ordinance was brought because some government enterprises are at a loss and some have not been able to earn a profit. He suggested that the opposition parties should not oppose for the sake of opposing but rather criticize constructively.

He said, ‘Let us at least follow the path of constructive criticism rather than opposition for the sake of opposition. By doing so, not only the government but also the government will be helped. If we turn a blind eye, we will oppose. I do not think this is an appropriate way. Therefore, instead of pronouncing the word Privatization Act, the use of the phrase Government Investment Management in Public Enterprises is not inappropriate in any sense. It also represents the essence of the Act.’

‘The current condition of government-invested enterprises is such that the government will sit idly by and watch this situation? Will the government watch the spectacle? The investment has been made. But it has not been able to give the return it should have given. Let’s look at Udayapur Cement, Hetauda Cement, and the Dairy Development Corporation. It has been said that some establishments are not in loss. They too have not been able to make the profit they could have. This is true. We are going to take legal action for this,’ he said.

He said that effective management of public establishments is the need of the day.
