Mentioning that the wind and hail caused great damage even to the harvested standing wheat crop, Yadav said, ‘This year the wheat grew well, but the wind and unseasonal rain caused damage during the harvesting.’

Ramsurat Barma, a farmer from Thukaila village, Nepalgunj-17, said that hail and wind caused great damage to the wheat crop, saying, ‘The harvested wheat has become unusable after being soaked, and the unharvested paddy has been rendered useless by the hail and wind. .’

Hail and wind have worried farmers here who are busy harvesting wheat. Senior Agricultural Extension Officer Anish Shrestha, Information Officer at the Agricultural Knowledge Center, Banke, said that the unseasonal rain has damaged the harvested wheat.

‘Although the sudden rain did not affect other crops, it has damaged the harvested wheat. We are collecting data to determine the extent of the damage,’ he said. ‘The damage occurred while the wheat was being brought in to Banke.’ He informed that they are monitoring the extent of damage across the district and have requested the agriculture branches in all eight municipalities to collect the details and send them to the Agriculture Knowledge Center.

In Banke, wind and rain damaged the wheat crop from last Wednesday afternoon throughout the night, and the rain that fell on Sunday evening has also caused problems for farmers in bringing in the wheat crop, according to Information Officer Shrestha. Nepal Farmers Federation Banke President Krishna Bikram KC said that the unseasonal rain and wind that came on the eve of the New Year have made farmers unhappy, adding that the rain has also damaged the ripe wheat crop, lentils and arhar crops.
