Midpoint. Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Sustapur) has produced 3,034 metric tons of mustard this year. According to the Agricultural Knowledge Center, mustard was cultivated in an area of 2,469 hectares in the district this year and this quantity was produced.
Center Chief Kul Prasad Tiwari said that among the oilseed crops produced, mustard was 1,319 metric tons and sorghum was 1,715 metric tons. According to him, in the fiscal year 2080/81, mustard was cultivated on an area of 2,443 hectares and 2,971 metric tons were produced, and in 2079/80, mustard was cultivated on an area of 2,433 hectares and 2,920 metric tons were produced.
Sanjay Dhakal, an agricultural crop expert at the Agricultural Knowledge Center, said that this year, the area under mustard cultivation has increased by 26 hectares and the production by 63 metric tons compared to the fiscal year 2080/81. ‘Looking at the data of the past three years, production is also increasing along with the area under mustard cultivation. “Farmers are increasingly attracted to mustard farming in the district,” he said.
Knowledge Center Information Officer Biswas Kafle says that farmers are becoming attracted to mustard farming because they understand that mustard farming is more profitable than other crops and that it is better to produce it themselves than using oil bought from the market.
- Mustard farming is mainly done in Gaindakot, Devchuli, Kawasoti and Madhyabindu municipalities and Binayi Triveni rural municipality.
