Palpa. Consumers have been warned to minimize the impact of climate change. A farmer’s school has been set up in Rampur and consumers here have been trained on climate resilient communities and ecosystems.
The participants of the 18-week-long Krishak Pathshala here have been trained on the importance of water bodies, conservation measures, ways to prevent fires, connecting consumers with enterprises. During the school period, the duties and rights of the consumer groups have been ensured, action plan of community forest will be prepared and implemented, leadership development training has also been provided.
Krishna Prasad Shrestha, president of the Federation of Community Forestry, Palpa, said that the participants have been trained by running a school to reduce the impact of climate change on our farming system.
“As forests are the basis of our lives, we cannot fight climate change without ensuring its conservation and sustainability,” he said, adding that sustainable management of forests would also provide an opportunity to improve the livelihood of community forest users.
Bishnu Prasad Basyal, chairman of Ramche Community Forest Users Group, said that if the farmers can use the climate resilient practices taught by the pathshala in their lifestyle, the effects of climate change can be reduced and it will contribute to the conservation of forests and environment.
The school has been operated with the financial support of Gandaki Watershed Climate Resilient Project, community forest federation project and Ramche Community Forest Users Group. Twelve women and eight men participated in the school.
