Tanahun. Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality has started purchasing and selling 650 kg of phapar produced by nine farmers here through the market. The municipality has purchased the phapar produced by Milan Gurung, Seti Gurung, Chitra Gurung, Phulmaya Gurung, Santosh Gurung, Dhan Bahadur Gurung, Sukhmaya Gurung, Santosh Gurung and Prakash Gurung.

Seti of Aanbukhaireni-6 Pughar said that in the past years, phapar was sold at Rs 60 per kg, but now the municipality is purchasing it at the rate of Rs 150 per kg. “This year, after the municipality purchased it, we have earned almost three times more income than in the past,” he said. “We are encouraged that the municipality has said that we will purchase as much as we produce.”

Milan of the same place said that there is no problem with sales after production. “After the village council purchased it, there has been more motivation to engage in it,” he said.

Santosh KC, head of the agriculture branch of the village council, said that efforts have been made to connect the indigenous produce of phapar produced in the fields of farmers in rural areas to the consumers. In the past, farmers here were selling phapar at Rs 60 per kilogram through intermediaries, but the municipality is selling it at Rs 150 per kilogram through the market, he said.

He said, “Because of this, farmers do not have to sell to intermediaries. Farmers also received more money than in the past.” KC said that arrangements have been made for free transportation from farmers’ fields to the market.

Phapar is produced in areas such as Pughar, Dihikhet, Ghaldanda, Ratanpur, and Hillekhark in Ambukhaireni-6. About five tons of phapar are produced here annually, said KC, the head of the agriculture branch.

Saying that its marketing will be further organized from next year, he said, “We have moved forward with a plan to purchase phapar flour by providing crushing equipment to villages where phapar is produced next year.”

The rural municipality’s goal is to take phapar produced in rural areas to consumers and make marketing arrangements for farmers easily, informed Shukra Chuman, the rural municipality’s chairman. RSS
