Kavrepalanchok. The blood stock at the Blood Transfusion Service Center of the Nepal Red Cross Society Kavre in Banepa is at zero. It is reported that when local citizens and hospitals reached the center today to collect blood for patients, the center was unable to provide even a single unit of blood.
It is said that there has been a shortage of blood at the center for the past few days. ‘The center does not have a single unit of blood, and there is demand from hospitals and individuals in the district,’ said Gokul Baniya, the center’s store in-charge.
According to him, the center has been receiving continuous calls for blood since Thursday morning. He said that the center, which is run by the Nepal Red Cross Society and is the main blood bank, is facing a lot of problems due to the lack of blood. The Red Cross has been operating a center with a blood storage capacity of seven hundred units.
It is said that there is a shortage of blood in the district due to the lack of regular blood donors. Blood has started to become scarce in the district for the past few days. The center has stated that the shortage of blood has started after the number of people receiving blood has increased more than donating blood. Red Cross Kavre has stated that there is also a shortage of blood due to the lack of blood donation programs.
According to center chief Radha Thapa, it is currently difficult to meet the shortage of blood in the center. “Sometimes we request blood donors who are in contact and coordinate with the patient’s relatives, otherwise it is very difficult,” he said.
According to him, the center has been demanding all types of blood, including ‘A-positive’, ‘B-positive’, ‘AB-positive’ and ‘O-positive’. Patients have been facing problems since the blood shortage began. After the blood shortage in Kavrep, there has been a compulsion to supply blood from Bhaktapur and Kathmandu for a few weeks, but in recent days, news of a blood shortage has been received in those two districts, said ‘store in-charge’ Baniya.
Half a dozen hospitals and a dozen clinics are operating in the district. All hospitals in the district perform general and specialized surgeries. It has been found that the hospital as well as the patient’s relatives are facing problems due to the lack of blood of the required group due to the need for blood during surgery.
Patients from neighboring districts of Sindhupalchowk, Sindhuli, Ramechhap, Dolakha and Okhaldhunga, Solukhumbu, Udayapur as well as various districts of Madhes and Inner Madhes come to the hospital for treatment. The problem of blood shortage has increased with the increase in the number of patients in the hospital.
