Kathmandu. Teachers who are protesting have continued their protest on Tuesday demanding the promulgation of the Education Act. The teachers have also continued their protest for the 20th day.
Education Minister Vidya Bhattarai has resigned after the teachers’ protest intensified. On Monday, Education Minister Bhattarai submitted her resignation to Prime Minister KP Oli, citing health reasons.
Prime Minister Oli has been continuously using disrespectful words against teachers. On Monday alone, he made a light comment saying that 10,000 teachers are not needed to carry out an act. Oli had criticized the then ruling party for not addressing the demands of teachers while in the opposition. But after coming to power, they have accused the students of failing because the teachers did not teach properly.
On Tuesday, teachers continued their protest on the Maitighar-Baneshwor road section of Kathmandu. They have been protesting for the past 20 days, demanding the issuance of the School Education Bill. The teachers, who are protesting in Kathmandu, have not stopped their protest even after the government promised to issue the Education Bill in the upcoming session.
With the resignation of the Education Minister, it seems even more difficult to address the demands of the teachers. In the past, the government has made agreements but not fulfilled them, so this time the teachers are adamant that they will not return to school until the Education Act is issued.
The government has called the upcoming budget session on April 12. Although the government has made it clear that the session has been called to issue the Education Bill and meet the demands of the teachers, the teachers are not confident in the government’s commitment. They say that they will end the agitation and return the day the government issues the Education Bill.
