Kathmandu. Sales of Tesla cars have fallen in most European countries, while demand for it has increased again in Norway. Industry data released on Monday gave this information.
Norwegian consumers have been re-attracted to Tesla, mainly because the company is offering vehicle loans at zero interest rates and bringing a new model ‘Y’ to the market. This model has become the best-selling car in Norway for the last three months. Norway is the world’s leading country in the use of electric vehicles. According to the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV), 93.9 percent of new vehicles registered in Norway in May were electric.
In the first five months of this year, this ratio was 92.7 percent. In May, Tesla regained the title of the largest car sales company in Norway. Tesla’s sales tripled to 18.2 percent of all new vehicles that month. However, tesla’s total sales grew only 8.3 percent in the first five months of the year, down from the overall vehicle market’s 30.6 percent growth.
Tesla’s market share stood at 12.9 percent during the period, placing it second only to German company Volkswagen. Tesla’s sales within the European Union fell by half in April. Tesla’s market share has dropped to 1.1 percent. The reason for this is the fierce competition of Chinese car companies and some consumers are unhappy with the company’s owner Elon Musk’s political views and relationship with US President Donald Trump.
“Tesla’s sales position in Norway shows a different and special situation than in other European countries, where demand is declining,” said OFV director Oivind Solberg Thorsen. Jonathan Parr, an analyst with the used vehicle business, told television channel 2, “Price is the most important thing for Norwegian consumers. “While many Norwegians don’t like Elon Musk, tesla has no qualms about climbing. However, some Norwegian media have reported in recent months that some Tesla users have started selling their vehicles and have decided not to buy Tesla in the future.
61 percent of new vehicles in Denmark are electric
Electric vehicles account for 61 percent of new vehicles sold in Denmark in May 2025. The data showed strong public interest in green transport, although there is uncertainty about the upcoming tax system. In May, 17,953 new passenger vehicles were registered in Denmark, up 23.3 percent from the same month last year, according to data released sunday by Mobility Denmark. Of these, 61 percent of the vehicles were powered by electricity. The proportion of electric vehicles among private buyers is still high.
Mads Rorwig, head of the organization, said, “There seems to be an interest in new technologies, especially green technologies. But customers are hesitant to make decisions as it is not clear what the tax regime will look like in the coming days. ”
The current sales growth is mainly the result of orders made in previous months. At present, confusion regarding taxes is preventing customers from buying vehicles. Meanwhile, Denmark’s tax ministry recently announced that the vehicle tax will not be raised until the end of 2025 and will be discussed with political parties before summer vacation. The announcement is expected to bring some stability to the market. The best-selling vehicle in May was the Skoda Elroc, which sold 1,457 units.
Other popular models include Volkswagen ID. There are 4, Tesla Model Y, and Volkswagen T-Roque. Denmark’s current vehicle tax system gives special exemptions to vehicles with zero pollution. If such a vehicle is registered by 2025, only 40 percent of the tax fixed will have to be paid.
This exemption has been gradually reduced and in 2035, the full tax will be levied. Similarly, a discount of 165,000 Danish currency is also given during the calculation of tax on vehicles with zero pollution. According to experts, Denmark’s tax policy has played a major role in attracting ordinary people to electric vehicles in recent years. Changes to the upcoming tax policy are expected to have profound implications for both consumers and automakers. Similarly, other European countries are also giving priority to the use of EVs.
