Kathmandu. The European Commission announced on Friday that it will invest 1.3 billion euros (about 1.41 billion US dollars) in digital technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), cloud and data and cybersecurity, by 2027.
The fund comes under the European Union’s (EU) Digital Europe Programme (Digitel), which aims to boost strategic technologies and increase the continent’s technological sovereignty.
The programme’s key priorities include improving the availability and accessibility of generative AI applications, increasing the bloc’s cyber resilience, and building a powerful digital model of the Earth to support climate adaptation and disaster risk management.
The programme will also support digital education and training. It will also help organisations develop advanced digital skills. The €8.1 billion Digital EU funding programme for 2021-2027 is focused solely on digital transformation for businesses and citizens.
