Kathmandu. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has warned of further sanctions if the ceasefire in Ukraine is violated.
“We support the proposal for a 30-day full and unconditional ceasefire. It must be implemented without preconditions to pave the way for meaningful peace talks,” she wrote on social media X (Twitter). Von der Leyen posted her message as leaders of France, Germany, Britain and Poland visited Kiev to show solidarity with Ukraine and increase pressure on Moscow for a ceasefire.
“The ball is now in Russia’s court. We stand ready to maintain strong pressure on Russia and impose even stronger sanctions if the ceasefire is violated,” the Commission President said. Despite US President Donald Trump’s call for a ceasefire, the Kremlin has shown no sign of stopping its offensive in Ukraine.
Moscow has already warned that a ceasefire cannot happen unless Western countries stop supplying weapons to Kiev. Von der Leyen said the overall aim was to build a “just and lasting peace for Ukraine” and that this would be crucial for security and stability across Europe. Tell me.
