Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka and Asian Development Bank (ADB) Vice President Fatima Yasmin held a meeting today. During the meeting held at the Ministry of Energy at Singha Durbar today, discussions were held on the progress of ADB-supported projects in the energy and irrigation sectors and upcoming cooperation.
During the meeting, Minister Khadka thanked the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for its support in the development of Nepal’s energy and irrigation sectors. He expressed the belief that ADB’s support to the government would continue in the days to come. Energy Minister Khadka urged for more investment in the energy sector as the development partner agencies would play an important role in implementing the energy development roadmap brought by the government.
Stating that the government was working to complete the projects constructed with the investment of ADB within the stipulated time, he said the ministry would address the problems and challenges faced during the construction of the projects at the earliest.
ADB has been working in the fields of Tanahu Hydropower Project, strengthening transmission and distribution system, Bagmati river basin improvement, flood risk management, mechanized irrigation, innovation and irrigation modernization promotion and energy, water resources and irrigation.
On the occasion, ADB Vice-President Fathima Yasmin urged the Minister to resolve the problems seen in the projects under construction with ADB’s investment. The meeting also discussed investment in Dudhkoshi Hydropower Project.
Discussions were also held regarding ADB’s new investment in Upper Arun Hydropower Project, Mahakali-3 Irrigation Project and Lower Seti Hydropower Project.
Energy Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Suresh Acharya, Water Resources and Irrigation Secretary Sarita Dawadi, Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director for Nepal Arnaud Koukois and other high-ranking officials of the Ministry were present in the meeting.
