Kathmandu. Economic Media Society Nepal (EMSON) has expressed grief over the loss of life and property while protesting the violent protests that took place in Tinkune, Kathmandu on Friday.
Issuing a statement today, EMSON has demanded that the culprits be brought to justice. “Emson strongly demands that those involved in the vandalism, arson and looting of media houses, political party offices, citizens’ homes, commercial buildings, vehicles, etc., be immediately arrested and brought to justice,” the statement said.
A young man from Kirtipur and a journalist from Avenues Khabar Television, Suresh Rajak, were killed in the violent incident. Some private residences were also set on fire, vandalized, and looted.
“The protesters also vandalized the offices of Kantipur Television and Annapurna Post, in addition to setting fire to the offices of political parties, vandalizing and looting the Bhatbhateni supermarket. Violence and chaos in the name of peaceful protests are unacceptable,” Emson said.
While there is a system in democracy to peacefully express one’s disagreements, activities such as inciting violence, causing the loss of lives, and arson and looting of private property and business establishments in the name of fulfilling political objectives are unacceptable, Emson said. .
