Emergency warehouses will be managed in each municipality.

Kathmandu. The Ministry of Home Affairs has taken the initiative to manage emergency warehouses at local levels across the country with necessary materials for disaster response.

A thematic committee meeting held at the Ministry of Home Affairs today under the chairmanship of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak decided that the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Provincial Disaster Management Committee, District Disaster Management Committee and Local Disaster Management Committees will coordinate the work of risk mapping, construction of safe shelters, preparedness, response, recovery and rehabilitation to make disaster risk reduction work effective.

Similarly, in the meeting, it was decided that Nepal Police will provide support to the capacity development of municipal police as per the demand, informed Ram Chandra Tiwari, Spokesperson/Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Similarly, it has been decided to further strengthen cooperation in policy programs and infrastructure development to protect the lives and property of citizens while minimizing security challenges such as drug abuse, suicide, road accidents, and cybercrime, which have been increasing recently.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to proceed with the necessary legal amendments and managerial preparations to bring the police adjustment work to a conclusion, in coordination with the provincial government, the Ministry of Home Affairs has stated. “The overall peace and security situation of the country and the security challenges seen at the provincial level have been analyzed and reviewed,” said Spokesperson Tiwari. “A report with the decisions taken in the meeting and the suggestions received will be sent to the National Coordination Council.”

The ministry has also decided to make the cooperation between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the relevant ministries of the provincial government effective to ensure security for the common people by closely monitoring and controlling the existing security challenges while eliminating the anti-constitutional and anti-order activities seen in recent days.

In the meeting, Home Minister Lekhak informed that the transfer of provincial emergency warehouses to the provincial government has begun. “We have already transferred warehouses to the provincial government in Karnali and Sudurpaschim. “The cooperation of the provincial and local governments is necessary to transfer it to other provinces and bring the warehouses into operation at the municipal level,” he said.

In the meeting, Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Pandey, Sudurpaschim Province Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Hira Sarki, Bagmati Province Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Suraj Chandra Lamichhane, Nepal Municipality Federation President Bhim Prasad Dhungana, National Federation of Rural Municipalities President Laxmi Pandey, Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi, Nepal Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Deepak Thapa, Armed Police Chief, Inspector General of Armed Police Raju Aryal, and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority Executive Chief Dr Dinesh Bhatta, among others, expressed their views.
