Electricity Authority claims to have made a profit of 11.36 billion in 6 months

Kathmandu. Nepal Electricity Authority has claimed to have earned a profit of Rs 11.36 billion in the first six months of the current fiscal year (FY) 2081/82. According to the details made public (self-published) under the provisions of the Right to Information Act, the Authority has earned a total of Rs 70.44 billion from electricity sales, interest and others during this period.

A total of Rs 59.8 billion has been spent on electricity procurement, administration, various projects, etc. Thus, the Authority’s unadjusted profit (before tax) from Shrawan to mid-Poush of the current fiscal year is projected to be Rs 11.36 billion.

The Authority, which had an annual loss of Rs 8.89 billion in FY 2072/73, has been in continuous profit since the following years. In the last fiscal year 2080/81, the Authority earned a profit of Rs 14.46 billion. From the profit it earned, the Authority is investing in projects for the expansion and strengthening of infrastructure for electricity generation, transmission and distribution and electrification.

The Authority has collected Rs 53.18 billion from the sale of electricity in the first six months of the current fiscal year. During this period, a total of 6.31 billion units of electricity have been purchased, including Rs 1.15 billion from the Authority’s subsidiaries and affiliates and Rs 5.16 billion from other private generating companies. An amount of Rs 34.84 billion has been paid for the purchased electricity. 242 million units of electricity have been imported from India and Rs 1.65 billion has been paid. From last Shrawan to Poush, 1.77 billion 1.8 million units of electricity have been exported to India, earning an income of Rs 13.09 billion.

During this period, Rs 13.35 billion has been spent by the NEA on various projects and electrification under the development budget received from the government and foreign aid. Rs 10.49 billion has been spent directly on Bhutanese aid.
