Agency. Dubai International Airport handled 92.3 million passengers last year. Dubai Airport, which handled 89.1 million passengers in 2018, has maintained its high level of service despite regional tensions caused by the Gaza war and flash floods in April.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) city, located at the crossroads of Asia, Europe and Africa, has been the world’s busiest international airport for a decade. The Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, issued a statement calling the airport a “global success story” and said it would serve 400 international destinations.

Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said he was confident Dubai would handle 100 million passengers by 2027. Dubai now faces competition from a major new airport under construction in neighboring Saudi Arabia, Riyadh. The airport is also planning a $35 billion expansion and relocation to Al Maktoum International Airport on the outskirts of the city.

The UAE, a hub for trade, tourism and commerce, continues to diversify its economy away from petroleum products (fuels) as it witnesses soaring real estate transaction values and a growing population.
