Kathmandu. Kathmandu: Defence Minister Manbir Rai has said that the documents and penalties should be tightened after the citizenship is given to all. Defence Minister Rai said this while speaking at a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee held at Singha Durbar on Wednesday.
He stressed the need to keep a close watch on the documents as there could be various types of activities in Nepal in the future. He also suggested to make provisions such as ban on promotion and employment if the birth registration employee makes fake distribution.
Stating that there should be more strict monitoring while going to the online system, Minister Rai said that those who live in online records should be punished if they do not keep the papers safe. He also said that it is necessary to think about taking foreign citizenship by renouncing Nepali citizenship and giving citizenship to descendants after returning to Nepal.
Minister Rai said, “There can be various activities related to citizenship in our country. Now that we have said that we will give citizenship to everyone, now we have to tighten the document and fines and penalties should be tightened. If the birth registration is forged by the secretary, the secretary must do what will be the impact on his promotion and job. If the ward chairman recommends the citizenship of a fake person, then what will be prohibited from doing politics? This should also be done to the employees and people’s representatives. If the secretary is apprehensive while registering the birth, then the ward members are in the entire ward. Ward members should be called and kept in attendance. Now there should be strictness in recommending and identifying. ’
Minister Rai said that only the children of citizens whose mother and father are Nepali should get the citizenship of descendants, adding that it would be appropriate to give different types of citizenship if the father is Nepali and mother is a foreigner.
