Banke. The Dhumaiya watershed area in Taduwa of Binauna, Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality-5, Banke has recently become a favorite of domestic tourists. Domestic tourists who come to the Dhumaiya watershed area, which is under the protection of the Siddeshwari Community Forest User Group, bathe in the waterfall, take photos, shoot videos and enjoy forest food in the scorching heat of Nepalgunj.

Local Chandra Prakash Rijal said that there is a rush of domestic tourists from cities such as Nepalgunj and Kohalpur during the summer. Rijal, who has been working to collect entry fee receipts for domestic tourists entering the watershed area, informed that 300/400 people visit daily during the summer. Tarjan Wali, a resident of Baijapur, Rapti Sonari-3, said that during the summer, people come here to bathe in the naturally flowing waterfall and swim in the pond. He said that recently, people from far away have been coming in jeeps, cars and motorcycles to enjoy the day.

Local Juddha Bahadur Pun informed that the attraction of domestic tourists has increased after the development of general infrastructure through the activities of the Siddeshwari Community Forest Users Group, including the construction of drinking water taps, swimming pools and general structures for forest picnics.

Siddeshwari Community Forest Users Group Chairman Sabin Pun mentioned that it is becoming an excellent destination for domestic tourists due to its biodiversity, natural beauty and accessibility. “Infrastructure development has not been possible due to lack of budget, but the number of tourists visiting has been increasing recently,” he said. “There is a rush of tourists visiting here on Saturdays and public holidays.”

He complains that despite requesting budget from the rural municipality and provincial government for infrastructure development and tourism promotion in the Dhumaiya watershed area, the budget has not been allocated from anywhere. Pun informed that even the roads destroyed by floods during the monsoon could not be rebuilt due to lack of budget.

There is a paved postal highway from Binauna to Chilhariya Chowk to reach the Dhumaiya watershed area, located across the Rapti River, about 25 kilometers east of the capital Nepalgunj.

You can easily reach here after crossing a three-kilometer unpaved road from Chilhariya Chowk. Rural Municipality Chairman Tapta Poudel said that he is ready to provide necessary assistance for the infrastructure development and tourism promotion of the Dhumaiya watershed area.
