Tanahun. Locals have demanded an alternative bridge after the suspension bridge over the Trishuli River connecting Devghat and Chitwan in Tanahun became dilapidated. Thousands of devotees use the bridge daily. Locals say that the bridge has become dangerous due to its dilapidation.

The bridge was built in 2037 BS. Now the bridge has become dilapidated and cannot support passengers, said local Shivraj Poudel. He informed that when hundreds of people cross the bridge at a time, it shakes like a ping. He said, “Now it is time to find an alternative to this bridge.”

Currently, apart from the suspension bridge, a concrete bridge connecting Thimura, Dasdhunga and Nawalpur is in operation at Hardi. But most of the devotees going to Devghat use this bridge via Apantari in Chitwan.

Most of the people of Devghat Rural Municipality-5 have been using this bridge as the shortest distance to reach Bharatpur in Chitwan. Hundreds of motorcycles have been crossing the bridge daily.

Til Bahadur Thapa, Chairman of Devghat Rural Municipality, said that the bridge has reached a point where it cannot be repaired. He informed that a concrete bridge is needed here. He said, “It is not possible with the resources of the rural municipality. The provincial government and the federal government should take the initiative.”
