Development expenditure reduced by 29 percent by mid-Chait

Kathmandu. Development expenditure has shrunk to 29 percent by the third quarter of the current fiscal year 2081/82. According to the data of the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General, the government’s capital expenditure as of Chaitra 30 is only Rs 102.9 billion. The government had allocated Rs 352.354 billion for the current fiscal year under the capital heading. Compared to the annual allocation, the capital expenditure so far is 29.2 percent.

Not only development expenditure but also the overall budget expenditure for this period has been weak. Compared to the annual allocation, the budget has been spent by the end of Chaitra, which is 53.67 percent. For the current fiscal year, the government had brought a budget of Rs 1860.333 billion. By mid-Chaitum, Rs 998.5 billion has been spent.

Similarly, the Comptroller and Auditor General’s Office has stated that out of the Rs 1.14 trillion 66 billion allocated under the current heading, 59.45 percent, or Rs 678.6 billion, has been spent.

The expenditure under the financial management heading till mid-Chaitum is 59.23 percent. For the current fiscal year, the government has allocated Rs 367.28 billion 45 percent under this heading, or 59.23 percent of the annual allocation.

Revenue collection for this period is also weak. Out of a total revenue target of Rs 1419.3 billion, only Rs 821.67 billion has been collected as of Chaitra 29. This is 57.89 percent of the annual target.

Similarly, out of a target of Rs 52.32 billion and Rs 6.5 billion in foreign grants this year, only Rs 14.26 billion and Rs 8.8 billion have been collected so far.
