Kathmandu. Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol has directed to make marketing and distribution interlinked with their own products. Deputy Mayor Dangol directed the Department of Social Development to test the quality of pads produced by entrepreneurs trained by KMC and distribute them to schools.

She directed the Department of Education to coordinate with the Education Department for distribution of quality pads produced in this way to the girl students of the community schools as per the prevailing procurement law. This alone will promote the products of local entrepreneurs, she said.

Citing the provisions of the sanitary pad distribution and management procedure, she said, “There is a provision to produce, use and distribute sanitary pads at the local level so as to promote local resources, knowledge, skills and entrepreneurship.” KmC has distributed sanitary pads to 19,946 girl students in the fiscal year 2080/81 BS. Based on the Integrated Educational Management Information System and the application received from the school, funds were sent to 86 schools for the purchase of pads.

Stating that rule 20 960 of the Sanitary Pad Distribution and Management Directive- 2076 BS provides that the local level can send money to the school after taking a decision, the Department has said that the amount has been released to the school. The amount sent in this way is Rs 14.36 million.

It has been said that distribution of clean, quality and environment-friendly perishable pads should be ensured. This is an education programme. For this, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has issued ‘Sanitary Pad Distribution and Management Guidelines’. Accordingly, a committee will be formed under the coordination of the deputy mayor. There will be one executive member and two members from among the principal.

The distribution of pads in kmc’s community schools has been started since 2076 BS. According to Govinda Prasad Sharma, chief of the Department of Education, the schools should provide the name details related to the distribution of pads. Some schools have sent details. How many are yet to be sent? Girls are provided a maximum of 16 pads for a menstrual cycle by the contact person of the school. KmC believes that with the distribution of pads, it has become easier for girls of that age group.
