Kathmandu. The Department of Labor and Occupational Safety under the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security has drawn the attention of stakeholders to implement the minimum wage. Organizing a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday, the department drew the attention saying that some establishments have received complaints that the wage system has not been fully implemented.

The government had set the minimum monthly wage for workers at 17,300, effective from 1st Shrawan 2080. Similarly, the government had set the minimum monthly wage for workers working in the tea plantation sector at 13,893, including dearness allowance. However, complaints have been received that some establishments have not even received the minimum wage set by the government, said Maninath Gop, spokesperson for the department. The department has also urged all establishments to conduct mandatory labor audits.

Spokesperson Gop mentioned that some establishments have received complaints about not complying with the audit law and warned against doing so. He also urged them to help create an environment that prevents child labor and forced labor by not employing children.

He has also requested all employers and workers to immediately join the Social Security Fund.
