Gandaki. Industrialists participating in a program organized in Pokhara today have demanded a budget to accelerate the slowing economy. Speakers in an interaction with a delegation of the Sindhupalchowk Chamber of Commerce and Industry visiting Pokhara highlighted the current need for a budget that would make the economy dynamic.
Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Gokarna Karki emphasized that the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2082 and 2083 should be private sector and investment-friendly. Stating that only policies and programs that accelerate the economy will encourage the private sector, he pointed out the need for the government to draw its attention to this.
Mentioning that there are expectations for programs that will make Pokhara’s tourism industry dynamic, he said that the Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been continuously advocating for the development of education, health, tourism and commercialization of agriculture here.
He informed that they are equally active not only for the benefit of the private sector but also for the development of Pokhara as a whole. Referring to the experience of trans-Himalayan trade with Sindhupalchowk businessmen and its importance, he opined that the opening of the Korola border crossing in Gandaki Province would open doors of new possibilities for businessmen in the entire Gandaki region.
He said that although there is no physical infrastructure on the Nepal side in Korola, there is an opportunity to do import and export work with China. Sindhupalchowk Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Buddharaj Basnet informed that there is currently more import than export from the Khasa and Rasuwa border crossings and opined that the import-based economy should be made export-oriented.
He opined that the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry should pay more attention to the problems of the district and city chambers of commerce and industry, and that a person who understands the real problems should come to the leadership of the federation. Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s outgoing president Pawan Kumar Prajapati said that industrialists/businessmen across the country are currently suffering from the same problem and expressed the view that the government should be continuously pressured to make the sluggish market run smoothly.
He said that a united effort of district and city industry and commerce associations is necessary to make the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry serious about the problem of Moflas. At the program, Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s senior vice-president Uttamman Buddhacharya, Deputy Secretary General Sudip Pradhananga and others expressed the view that the budget should be presented in a way that solves the problems of industrialists and businessmen.
