Bhaktapur. The Suryabinayak-Dhulikhel Road Construction Project along the Araniko Highway has prepared to close the road for five hours daily for construction. Since December 24, 2079, the project had started the road expansion work simultaneously in two sections along the Araniko Highway, from Jagati in Bhaktapur to Sanga and from Sanga in Kavrepalanchok to Dhulikhel.

The mayors of Bhaktapur and Kavrepalanchok have demanded that the project expedite the construction work at Sanga on the Bhaktapur-Dhulikhel road. The project proposed to the mayors of Bhaktapur and Kavrepalanchok to close the road for five hours daily for road construction, but the mayors rejected the proposal.

The mayors say that an alternative should be found as blocking the highway during the day will cause problems for the general public. Bhaktapur Municipality Mayor Sunil Prajapati informed that it would not be appropriate to block traffic during the day during the expansion of the Araniko Highway. Stating that the construction work would be appropriate to do it at night, he said that an on-site study should be conducted about alternative roads during the road construction and that discussions should be held before demolishing the huts around the highway without compensation.

In a discussion with the project, Suryabinayak Municipality Mayor Basudev Thapa expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of the project work and said that since Suryabinayak-Dhulikhel is a project of national pride, it should be completed on time. He said that the road should be partially closed only after conducting an on-site inspection so that the public does not face any problems.

Dhulikhel Municipality Mayor Ashok Kumar Byanju informed that the construction contractors who are doing the road construction work should do so in a way that does not cause any problems to the public. He stressed that the construction contractors or the Road Department should make the necessary arrangements for road maintenance and alternative routes.

Changunarayan Municipality Mayor Jeevan Khatri emphasized that preparations should be made to carry out road construction work at night. The work has been started after a contract agreement was signed for the 7.5 km expansion of the Suryabinayak-Dhulikhel road at a total cost of Rs 3.88 billion.
