Darchula. The Nepali Army has started opening the track from both sides of the Darchula-Tinker road section under construction under the Mahakali Corridor. The track has been opened from Dumling and Gaga.

The army has started digging the road from Chhangru Gaga in Byas Rural Municipality-1. Earlier, work was only being done in Dumling, Kalju, Atungti, Tambaku and other places in Ward No. 2 via Tusarpani in Byas Rural Municipality-3. The army’s construction team has gathered to open the track of the 79-kilometer Darchula-Tinker road.

The army, which was entrusted with the construction from Tusarpani in Byas Rural Municipality-3, has so far opened 15.2 kilometers of track. According to Nepali Army spokesperson Gaurav Kumar KC, out of 13.4 kilometers of road tracks opened in 2080-2081, two kilometers have been upgraded. In the current fiscal year, 1.8 kilometers of track has been opened and 1.2 kilometers have been upgraded. Due to budget shortage, work has not been carried out at a fast pace. Only Rs 90 million was received in the current fiscal year.

He informed that the government has made an additional provision of Rs 50 million after construction was stopped due to budget shortage. From the latest budget received, the army has been engaged in constructing a camp in Chhangru, Byas Rural Municipality-1, transporting essential equipment including excavators, compressor machines, gelatin and other construction materials.

The Nepali Army has opened a 200-meter track in Phatangad near Tusarpani, which has a hard rocky section. A new track of 500 meters has been constructed in the Atungti area of Byas Rural Municipality-2 and more than 500 meters in the Tambaku area. The military spokesperson informed that work is underway to open a 200-meter track in the lower area this year to connect the Tambaku area.

“Construction is underway to connect the road from both sides,” he said, “A two-kilometer track will be opened from Chhangru this year. Since there are no hard rocks in the upper area, it is relatively easy to open the track.” It is said that road construction work is underway from Byas Rural Municipality-3 Tusarpani to Ward No. 2’s Mal, Kothdhar, Sagnadi, Dumling, Kalju and Tambaku areas. Vehicles have been operating on the zero-point five-kilometer section of the road section where the army has taken over the construction of the road since the last week of Magh.

This road can be traveled by vehicle from Tusarpani to Malgaun. The army, which started construction of the road in the fiscal year 2077/78, has so far opened only 15 kilometers of track. An engineer involved in the construction said that the target of completing the construction within five years has not been met due to lack of budget. Until the equipment is transported, workers from Byas Rural Municipality-2 have been mobilized to dig the road.

The locals and the army have been digging the road for three or four days. Hitesh Budhathoki, a ward member of Tinker, Byas Rural Municipality-1, expressed happiness that the army has started work from both sides, albeit slowly. He stressed that adequate budget should be arranged. The ward chairman, Ashok Singh Bohara, also has the same demand. He said that the Rs 50 million received last Falgun was insufficient. He said that this road should be constructed by allocating sufficient budget on priority. Meanwhile, on April 22, a team led by former Minister Ganesh Singh Thagunna met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and demanded that at least Rs 500 million be allocated for the Tusarpani-Tinker road. Leader Thagunna said that the emphasis was on ensuring the budget to open the track towards us while India is making the Lipulekh-Kalapani road two-lane.
