He says that nowadays, due to the festival near the farm, the demand has increased and he is selling up to 50 kg daily. He said that so far this year, he has sold more than Rs. 400,000.

Farmer Khadka said, “I studied agriculture and wanted to do something in my own place. I established an agricultural farm six years ago and have been doing flower business. For the past two years, I have also been doing strawberry farming professionally.”

He has been doing strawberry farming professionally by renting land from Swargadwari Ashram in Jhingaura, Ghorahi. Through Dang Agromart Agricultural Farm, he also cultivates centipedes during festivals and has been cultivating melons commercially during the summer season.

Says that strawberries are considered a good fruit due to their deliciousness and nutritional properties and that there is no problem in selling them, Khadka said, “Initially, more than 800,000 rupees were spent on bringing plants and adopting the mulching method for drip irrigation. The plants planted in the end of Bhadra have now produced and the fruits are being sold. It is hoped that this will provide even better income.”

Says that strawberries are cultivated because of the suitable climate and soil, and that the strawberries produced in the district are being sold in markets including Ghorahi, Tulsipur, Lamahi, etc. He informed that he has been cultivating strawberries in the district to replace traditional agricultural businesses with new businesses through modern technology. Farmer Khadka has also started commercial cultivation of strawberries on seven ropanis of land in Rolpa this year.

Pritiviraj Lamichhane, information officer and agricultural economist at the Agricultural Knowledge Center, said that it would be good if the strawberries produced could be sold daily. He said that since the market in the district is small, it is necessary to take special care in packing and transportation. He said that farmers should be careful as there is a possibility of spoiling and wasting the fruits if they are picked and kept in packing for many days.

He informed that the air, water and soil of the district are all good. “Strawberries are one of the fruit plants that grow in cold places,” he said. “Today and tomorrow will be good.” He said that although they are not cultivated commercially in the district, they are grown in small quantities in pots at home.
