Kanchanpur. The construction of Daiji Jogbudha road connecting Mahendranagar and Dadeldhura to inner Madhes has not been completed even after seven years of signing the contract. In April 2018, a contract agreement was signed with Nargajun Construction for Rs 212.65 million to complete the construction within three years.
Seven years after the contract was signed, only nine kilometers of road section has been blacktopped. So far, the deadline for the construction of the road has been extended five times. According to the Infrastructure Development Office, Mahendranagar, the deadline has been extended for the fifth time to complete the construction on July 15, 2018.
The locals of Kanchanpur have been facing problems due to lack of construction of the road, which is close to the hilly districts of the Far-West including Dadeldhura.
Locals of Dadeldhura’s Inner Madhes are compelled to travel to Mahendranagar using a circuitous route through Attariya in Dhangadhi. Dev Bahadur Bohara, ward chair of Parshuram Municipality-9, said, “The people of the inner Madhes are facing a lot of problems due to the lack of construction of this road.” ’
Ram Dhami, a local, said that the drains constructed have also started getting buried as the concerned bodies have not shown interest in the construction of the road. This short-distance road connecting the inner Madhes, which is half of Dadeldhura’s population, with Kanchanpur is also an alternative to the Bhimdutta Highway.
Laxman Raj Joshi, information officer at the Infrastructure Development Office, Kanchanpur, said that the deadline for the construction of the road has been extended for the fifth time. According to him, the contractors have already received payment of Rs 183.6 million.
