Lumbini. Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya has emphasized the need to become technology-friendly to make crime investigation more effective. He believes that the first priority of the police administration is to strengthen investigation, gain public trust, and formulate a result-oriented plan.

Inaugurating the provincial-level crime investigation review seminar organized at the Lumbini Province Police Training Center in Butwal today, Chief Minister Acharya mentioned that although the Nepal Police is excellent in the field of crime investigation, results may not be achieved in some cases. However, the Nepal Police has brought effective results in most crime investigations.

He pointed out the need to further refine the investigation process and move forward in a new way. ‘It is necessary to integrate technology into the study and investigation work carried out by the police. Now many crimes are being committed through cyber means, so investigations should be technology-friendly, he said, “It is necessary for the police to increase the use of technology for studies and investigations.”

He said that there are additional challenges in crime investigation as six districts of Lumbini Province share an open border with India. He stressed the need to make border security and crime control more effective, keeping in mind the ease with which criminals can move across the border. Chief Minister Acharya said that a serious analysis of drug trafficking, cybercrime, border misuse and other latest security challenges is necessary.

He said that revenue leakage is occurring due to the open border and effective measures should be taken to discourage smuggling. Stating that Nepali farmers are suffering due to the entry of poultry, eggs, chicks, milk and other items through the open border, he suggested that the police administration should make an effective plan for control.

High-ranking officials of the Nepal Police, criminal investigation experts and the Chief of Lumbini Provincial Police are present at the seminar. It is stated that the program will include detailed discussions on the challenges of criminal investigation, investigation technology and security strategies.

Lumbini Province’s Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Aadesh Kumar Agrawal, Additional Inspector General of Police Kuber Singh Kadayat, Lumbini Province Police Chief Deputy Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki and others are present at the inauguration program.
