Kathmandu. Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Canada’s current vice-president candidate Kiroj Shrestha has filed his candidacy for the post of president for the upcoming 2025-27 term. Kiroz, who filed his candidacy with the slogan of ‘Non-Political NRN’, has released a list of important works done as vice-president and in other previous roles.
For the first time in the history of NRNA Canada, he was able to get grants for programs from the federal government. Similarly, in the last two years, NRNA Canada has received a grant of about $ 75,000 for various programs. Dozens of local Nepali organizations such as Nepali Mahila Chautari, Laligurans Sports and Cultural Club, Women Education and Skill Development, Brotherhood Nepali Sports Club, Bramsaga United, among others, received about $75,000 in government grants.
Similarly, Shrestha, as the coordinator of the Central Regional Committee, organized a program to hoist the Nepali flag at the local city building on the occasion of various Nepali National Days in cities including Sudbury and Barry and also organized free tax clinics in dozens of cities including Sarnia, Cornwall, Windsor and Naegra. For the first time in The City of London, the work of providing mobile consular service of the Nepali Embassy was also done during his tenure.
Shrestha also made a very important contribution to Nepali cricket during his tenure. He coordinated the Nepali national cricket team to donate food to Food Bank Canada. He had arranged free VIP seats for the elders of the Nepali community in international matches organized by Cricket Canada.
For the first time in Canada, he organized a chess competition among players of Nepali origin and managed to participate in the prestigious Canadian Chess Championship of Nepali origin Canada Chess Champion. Shrestha had managed to bring $44,700 from the NRNA ICC to NRN NCC Canada (related to the Nepali Canadian Cricket Club event).
Shrestha had organized various seminars to help new students coming to Canada in engineering profession. Shrestha said that he would support nepalis living in Canada in various activities.
