Kanchanpur. According to the Far-Western Health Directorate, coronavirus infection has been confirmed in 16 people who returned from India in the last one week alone. People entering from Trinagar border point of Kailali and Jhulaghat border point of Baitadi are getting infected every day. The health desks at the checkpoints have not been tested due to lack of adequate insects.
According to the Far-Western Health Directorate, the infection has been confirmed in two people who came from India in the Far-West on Tuesday. According to the Directorate, one person each has been found infected at Gauriphanta and Jhulaghat checkpoints.
A total of 643 people had entered Nepal from various points in the far-western region. Of these, 14 people were tested and two were confirmed to be infected. Gaddachauki is the nearest transit point to India’s capital Delhi. Nepal-India friendly buses are operating from this point to different parts of India. Due to lack of testing kits, the health examination of the passengers could not be done.
Most of the people who tested positive for coronavirus at Trinagar were returnees from Delhi in India. Health workers say that this shows a high risk of corona in the Far-West. According to the Far-Western Health Directorate, only 370 kits are available in the province as the department has sent 200 kits.
The test was started after 100 insects were made available at Gaddachauki checkpoint in Kanchanpur on Tuesday. Om Prakash Joshi, chief of the District Health Office, Kanchanpur, said that the testing has started at the checkpoint from Tuesday.
“We have received only 100 kits, which is not enough,” he said. According to him, seven people were tested at Gaddachauki checkpoint on Tuesday.
The health workers inquire about the health status and symptoms of those returning from India at the health desk and conduct other tests and consultations including malaria, dengue.
“We have tightened the number of migrants, but they have not been able to get tested due to lack of pests,” said Bishal Bhatta, chief of Gaddachauki Health Desk. ‘
Locals say that the government should tighten the checkpoints as the infection has spread due to the failure to tighten the checkpoints in time in the past years. Padam Thapa, a local, said, “Those coming from Gaddachauki border point have not been tested for COVID-19. ‘
Stating that jeeps, cars and buses coming from India enter Nepal directly without stopping at the border points, he said that the administration should stop at the checkpoint and check at the health desk. Health desks have been set up in Gaddachauki of Kanchanpur, Trinagar of Kailali, Jhulaghat of Baitadi and Darchula in the far-western region.
