Consumer inflation at 3.75 percent, highest in ghee and oil

Kathmandu. According to data released by Nepal Rastra Bank, annual point consumer inflation has reached 3.75 percent in Falgun month of the current fiscal year. In the same period of the previous year, such inflation was 4.82 percent.

In the review month, the inflation of the food and beverage group was 3.34 percent and the inflation of the non-food and service group was 3.97 percent. In the same period of the previous year, the inflation of these groups was 5.95 percent and 4.07 percent, respectively.

The annual point consumer price index of the ghee and oil sub-group under the food and beverage group has increased by 13.74 percent, pulses and legumes by 7.80 percent, fruits by 6.82 percent and non-alcoholic beverages by 5.15 percent. Similarly, the annual point-wise consumer price index of the spices sub-group has decreased by 5.17 percent, vegetables by 1.24 percent, and fish and meat by 0.74 percent.

Under the non-food and services group, the annual point-wise consumer price index of the miscellaneous goods and services sub-group has increased by 10.14 percent, clothing and footwear by 7.01 percent, alcoholic beverages by 6.07 percent, furnishings and household appliances by 5.59 percent, and transportation by 5.07 percent.

During the review month, the annual point-wise consumer inflation of the Kathmandu Valley was 3.25 percent, Terai by 3.77 percent, Hills by 3.72 percent, and Himalayas by 4.77 percent.
