Bhojpur. ‘Samtoling’ Buddhist monastery has been constructed in shadananda municipality-10. The Buddhist monastery has been constructed here for the development of religious tourism along with the preservation of Buddhist culture.
Pemdorchi Sherpa, ward chair of Shadananda Municipality-10, Sampang, said the monastery has been constructed at a cost of Rs 12 million with donations from the central government, state government, local government and local people. Along with the monastery, kitchen, toilet, tap and other structures have been constructed on about two ropanis of land. Ward Chair Sherpa said that the ward has allocated Rs 500,000 to make various paintings and figures related to Buddhism in the monastery.
According to him, the old monastery was revived by the 2072 earthquake and the new monastery was constructed at the initiative of the ward. “We have built the monastery to promote religious tourism along with the preservation of Buddhism and culture,” said Sherpa. There was a lot of problem when the old monastery was damaged by the earthquake. After a lot of hard work of the ward, we have been able to build a monastery here. ’
Ward chair Sherpa said he had donated two ropanis of land and eight ropanis of land free of cost by local Nimchhiri Sherpa for the construction of the monastery. Furlakpa Sherpa, a local, said the construction of a new monastery in place of the quake-damaged monastery has boosted the enthusiasm.
According to him, the construction of Buddhist monastery at the initiative of the ward has benefited more than 120 Buddhist communities here. Sherpa said that it is customary for everyone to gather and worship in the monastery every month.
“The raw monastery of the past was damaged by the earthquake,” he said, adding, “There was a risk of entering the monastery and offering prayers when it was dilapidated.” Now, with the construction of the monastery with the necessary infrastructure, it has become easier for us. Everyone in the village can come together and worship together. ’
He said that after the construction of the new monastery, people from different places used to come to visit. Sherpa said that the expansion of Mundum trekking route from nearby here would also help in the promotion of tourism.
