Myagdi. The construction of the large-scale Ghostekhola drinking water project, which has been announced as the district’s much-awaited pride project, has begun. The project, which has been started under contract by the Federal Drinking Water and Sewerage Management Project, will benefit 2,369 households in six wards of Raghuganga Rural Municipality and Beni Municipality.

The GATRC-Pagoda-SASA JV had signed a contract agreement for the construction of the project, estimated at Rs 356.339 million, 727 million, in Ashar for Rs 285.12 million, 755 million.

Project Chief Engineer Suman Thapa informed that the contractor company has started the construction of the structure of the source, main pipeline and water treatment center at Currentkhola, Raghuganga Rural Municipality-6. He said that work is underway at the Thadakhani with the goal of distributing drinking water through the plan within this fiscal year.

‘This year, more than 30 million rupees of work has been done,’ said Project Chief Thapa. ‘The plan, which was agreed upon on Asad 24, 2081 BS, is targeted to be completed on Asad 23, 2084 BS.’

This plan, which has been included in the central drinking water program of the federal government’s Ministry of Drinking Water since 2073 BS, has been included in the list of Myagdi’s pride projects by the then District Council of the District Council and the District Assembly after the implementation of federalism.

Beni Municipality-5, 6, 9, 10 Wards, Raghuganga Rural Municipality-6 Pakhapani and Ward The last survey was conducted in 2022 to construct the massive Ghoptekhola Drinking Water Project, which was conceived in 2073 BS targeting Lake No. 5.

Project engineer Naveen Subedi said that 16,186 people will benefit from the project. There is a plan to expand the drinking water facility from the source of the Current River in Raghuganga-6 Pakhapani through a pipeline to Pakhapani and from there to the Arthunge area via Jhi, Patlekhet, Ghatan, Pulachaur.

The source, 76.29 km main and 86.24 km distribution pipelines, water treatment plants and other structures are being constructed through a contract.

10 percent participation of the project, estimated to cost 481.65 million rupees, will be from the consumers. Beni Municipality and Raghuganga Rural Municipality have secured resources for the work of digging and repairing the distribution line to be done by the consumers.

Kham Bahadur Garbuja (Khambir), a member of the House of Representatives elected from Myagdi, said that the Ghoptekhola Drinking Water Project has been implemented after nearly a decade of efforts.

‘Although the project, estimated to cost 480 million, was included in the annual program by the Ministry of Drinking Water, it could not be implemented due to lack of approval of the DPR and assurance of budget resources,’ he said. ‘In 2080 Falgun, the Ministry of Finance ensured a budget of 370 million, and the implementation began by calling for contracts.’
