Dodhara Chandani (Kanchanpur). Construction of dry port at Dodhara Chandani is in full swing. Ashish Gajurel, executive director of Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee, informed that the construction of the port is going on in full swing. According to him, 1,000 trees have been cut so far in mayapuri community forest at Dodhara Chandani municipality-1 for the construction of the port.
“A total of 1,593 trees were to be cut at the port construction site. So far, 1,000 trees have been cut. He said, “Preparations are being made to complete the tree felling work within this month and proceed with the construction work, for which India has selected a construction company.” ”
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of Nepal and the Government of India on June 1, 2023 for the construction of the dry port to be constructed with the financial and technical support of the Government of India.
The Indian side has already selected a construction company for the construction of the port at a cost of Rs 2.54 billion. The construction of the infrastructure will begin after the Nepali side vacates the port site and hands it over to the Indian side.
According to the Inter-Modal Transport Development Committee, two warehouse buildings, customs check building, quarantine building, immigration building and security building will be constructed on 42.36 hectares of land used for the port.
Nepal has already commissioned a six-lane access road to the dry port and a four-lane concrete bridge over the Mahakali River. India is building an access road to the port. With the construction of the dry port, it is expected that the opening of the western border point will open the door to the possibility of far-western development.
