Sankhuwasabha. The construction of a 21-kilometer access road to the dam site of the 1,063-megawatt capacity semi-reservoir Upper Arun Hydropower Project to be built in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality has begun. Land has been acquired for the construction of the access road and 2,100 trees have been felled, informed Purna Chauhan, the head of the project’s administration.
The construction of the access road has begun by transporting construction materials by helicopter. 413 ropanis of land have been acquired for the construction of the project. Rs 136.5 million has been paid to the revenue forest department for the felling of trees in the national forest and community forest of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-2 and 4 wards. According to Chief of Administration Chauhan, the price of land in that area was fixed at Rs 150,000 per plantation.
Although trees are cut down during the project operation, according to the Development Agreement (PDA), the saplings will be planted in another place. The project has already paid Rs 136.5 million to the Forest Department for planting, raising and growing saplings.
A concrete bridge will also be constructed on the Arun River and Chepuwa, which are on the access road. A road will be constructed from Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-4, Chhorang to Bhotkhola-2, Ruku. Rs 7.91 billion 3.9 million has been allocated for the construction of the access road.
