Dhulikhel. A drinking water tank with a capacity of three lakh will be constructed for the distribution of drinking water to the citizens of Budol, Banepa Municipality-6, Kavrepalanchok under the ‘One House, One Tap’ campaign.
The construction of the Dandagaun drinking water tank and pipeline expansion project for the distribution of one house, one tap through the Integrated Drinking Water Project has begun from Wednesday. Inaugurating the construction work, Mayor Shanti Rakhta Shakya said that the municipality has a plan to provide drinking water to all citizens’ homes.
Earlier, the municipality was supplying water under the Kavre Valley Integrated Drinking Water System, but after the flood on Asoj 12, the municipality faced drinking water problems again.
Mayor Shakya said that Banepa Municipality has allocated a budget with priority for drinking water in line with the objective of connecting citizens of all wards to one house and one tap.
She urged all residents to cooperate in solving the problem without playing politics over drinking water. Deputy Mayor Bimala Sapkota Dahal said that the municipality has full support for the campaign launched by Banepa Municipality-6 and that the municipality is ready for the necessary budget and coordination for this.
She emphasized that all the residents of the city should support and cooperate in the development of drinking water, roads, and health. Ward Chairman of Banepa Municipality-6, Sachitananda KC, says that the first phase of Khatrigaun deep boring work has been completed by 99 percent and taps have been distributed.
He said that about one thousand people in the Dandagaun area will benefit from the second phase of the plan. ‘After the construction of a tank with a capacity of three hundred thousand liters is completed, Rs. 7 million has been allocated for the third phase. This will benefit the citizens of Tallotol Ratmate, Neupane Tole, Ram Mandir, and Bhakteswar areas,’ he said.
Krishnabuddha Bajgain, coordinator of the committee formed to integrate all water sources, said that work is progressing at a rapid pace as per the agreement to integrate the scattered sources for the overall benefit of the ward residents.
‘We have agreed to integrate the scattered sources through a joint meeting of all political parties, local consumers, and public representatives and distribute water jointly through tanks. Work has progressed accordingly,’ he said.
Sunil Gharti Magar, coordinator of the Dandagaun drinking water tank construction and ‘pipeline’ expansion project, said that the line expansion and construction of the drinking water tank will be completed at Rs 3.53 million.
He said that under the city-level plan, Rs 5.30 million will be borne by the consumer and the remaining Rs 3 million by the municipality. ‘Deep boring’ has been done to integrate the seven mains in Khatrigaun and for additional water sources.
