Benny. The construction of headrace tunnel from the outlet of the 53.5 MW Upper Myagdi-1 hydropower project under construction in Dhawalagiri and Malika rural municipalities has begun. The digging of the tunnel has been started from the outlet of Malika rural municipality-7, Bharbang, where the power house of the project is located.
Inaugurating the tunnel digging work, Malika Rural Municipality Chair Beg Prasad Garbuja urged the government to complete the project within the stipulated time by mobilizing necessary equipment and human resources for the construction of the project. Along with this, tunnel work is being done from four places in this project.
Earlier, the work of digging tunnels on two sides was underway through the audit of dhawalagiri rural municipality-4, Khamla and Chhahari, the dam site of the project. Project chief Jyoti Kumar KC said the tunnel will be 1 km 865 meters long. According to him, a 5-km 700-metre tunnel will be constructed from the dam to the powerhouse.
Myagdi Hydropower Limited is the promoter of the project and is constructing a 15-meter-high and 40-meter-long dam at Dhaulagiri-4, Khamla to divert the water of myagdi river into the tunnel.
According to project chief KC, the civil contractor Luna Builders and Contractors, which was operated in the area on April 19, 2080 BS and operated on April 19, 2081 BS, has arranged adequate human resources, materials and equipment at the construction site.
According to the project, the construction of the tunnel and power house along with the dam has been expedited with the goal of generating electricity by February 2083 BS.
A 198.90-metre audit tunnel at Chhahari, a 76.54-metre-long tunnel from the dam and an additional 1 km270.67-metre main tunnel have already been constructed from the audit. 20 percent physical progress has been made towards the dam site of the project.
The power house of the project will be constructed at Malika-7 Bharwang with an investment of Rs 11.23 billion to be raised through loans of six banks led by Sanima Bank, promoter companies and shares of the general public.
An average of 315.01 gigawatt hours of electricity will be connected to the central line annually from the 132 KV substation being constructed by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) at Dadakhet of Malika-7 by constructing a 1.5-km 132 KV transmission line from Bharwang.
