Constitutional Council should not be made prisoner of indecision: Minister Gurung

Kathmandu. Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said that the constitutional council meeting should not be made a prisoner of indecision. He said this while discussing in principle the bill to amend the Constitutional Council (Functions, Duties, Powers and Procedures) Act, 2066 BS at a meeting of the Legislation Management Committee under the National Assembly today.

Minister Gurung said that the appointment process was being delayed due to lack of regular meetings. “The appointment process is delayed as the meeting of the Constitutional Council is not regular. It is necessary to create an environment where council meetings are held regularly. The council should not be made a prisoner of indecision for any reason,” he said.

Minister Gurung stressed the need for creating an environment where the Council should make recommendations unanimously as much as possible, the main opposition party should come to regular meetings and all should work together to keep the functioning of the state smooth.

Lawmakers Bhuwan Bahadur Sunar, Gopi Bahadur Sarki, Madan Kumari Shah Garima, Ghanshyam Rijal, Bhagwati Neupane, Renu Chand and Shuresh Kumar Ale Magar among others opined that the bill should be amended as per the spirit and spirit of the constitution. Committee President Tulsa Kumari Dahal said that discussions were held in principle today to amend the Council Act and detailed clause-wise discussions would be held in the next meeting.
