Commission launches ‘Anti-Corruption and Promotion of Good Governance’ campaign

Okhaldhunga. A team of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has conducted interviews with government officials, media persons, representatives of local levels, stakeholders and locals in the district on the prevention of corruption. Under-Secretary at the Commission’s Bardibas Office, Tulsiram Parajuli, said that the commission has been interacting with the districts and districts regarding the status of corruption and complaints in the country, provinces and districts, the reasons for corruption, complaints, litigation process, measures to reduce corruption and severe punishment for corruption.

According to him, as per the commission’s regular program, information about the economic and policy corruption in the district is taken on the spot and suggestions are also taken about the activities of the commission. Office Chief Ram Bahadur Kuruwang said it was the responsibility of all, not just the Commission, to control corruption.

Okhaldhunga District Coordination Committee Chief TekRaj Bhattarai, Chief District Officer Bijaya Raj Subedi and Siddhicharan Municipality Mayor Tejendra Khanal, among others, expressed their commitment to work from their respective areas. The stakeholders here have suggested to be aware of the increase in the incidents of irregularities in the district due to lack of fair investigation in the cases lodged with the Commission.

Meanwhile, 211 complaints of corruption have been lodged with the Commission from Okhaldhunga. The CIAA team, which visited Okhaldhunga as part of the ‘Anti-Corruption and Promotion of Good Governance’ campaign, has so far reported 211 complaints in the district. According to Rajendra Kumar Poudel, spokesperson of the Commission’s central office and joint secretary, 124 complaints have been received from Okhaldhunga in the current fiscal year, including 13 from Okhaldhunga to the federal office, 12 from the province and 99 from the local level. Of these, 80 complaints including six from the association, five from the state and 69 from the local level have been disposed of.

According to Poudel, under-secretary at the Commission’s Bardibas office, a total of 87 complaints have been received from Okhaldhunga. Of these, 50 have been cleared and 37 are in the process of action. At the local level, Champadevi rural municipality has the highest number of 17 complaints and Likhu and Sunkoshi rural municipalities have received the least number of five complaints each.

According to the commission’s data, the highest number of 17 complaints have been received from Champadevi rural municipality, out of which 14 have been disposed of while three are pending. Of the 14 complaints received from Chishankhugadhi rural municipality, seven are pending. Of the 11 complaints received from Manebhanjyang, nine are pending.

Of the 10 complaints received from Siddhicharan municipality, seven are pending out of three, while six are pending in nine cases from Molung. Of the five complaints received from Likhu rural municipality, three are yet to be disposed of, while sunkoshi rural municipality has received five complaints.
