Chitwan. Commercial kit development firm Bhandara has prepared more than 300,000 kimbuca brinjals for sale. The firm has prepared these saplings on its own 1.5 hectares of land.
According to the firm’s chief Suruchi Tripathi, more than 300,000 saplings are ready for sale in nurseries. Farmer TAG_OPEN_span_8 s have already applied for the purchase of 20,000 saplings. Last year, the office produced 350,000 saplings and sold 250,000 saplings. He said that the farmers have started coming up with the demand for the saplings as the time is best for shifting the kimbu saplings. The firm has been selling saplings for Rs 5 per piece.
With the displacement of silk farmers, the saplings here are being sold as grass. He said, “We are now selling it as a grass crop after the farmers of sericulture were displaced. He said that coordination has been made with the municipality for the sale of saplings.
According to him, earlier farmers of Madhes state used to come to collect saplings. Now these farmers have stopped coming to collect the saplings. According to him, the number of farmers in the area has decreased as the nurseries have started producing saplings locally in the province and the farmers have started preparing saplings through grafting.
Two varieties of Kimbu plants of Kanva are ready for sale in the farm. The firm is currently preserving 38 species of kimbu plants in the model garden. Under the protection of the mother, various species of plants are being planted and protected. Kimbu saplings are sold in Chitwan, Makawanpur, Sindhuli, Gorkha, Kathmandu, Nawalparasi, Baglung, Tanahun, Kavre and Sindhupalchowk districts. At present, there are no silk farmers in the district.
